Thanksgeeking!
Come along to ThanksGeeking…a GMSS event that celebrates Geek/Nerd Pride Day!
Geek Pride Day is an initiative to promote geek culture, usually celebrated on 25 May (although due to venue availability we've picked the closest Thursday which will be 23rd May so technically it will be Geek/Nerd Pride Eve's Eve). The date was chosen to commemorate the release of the first Star Wars film on 25 May 1977, but shares the same date as two other similar fan "holidays": Towel Day, for fans of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy by Douglas Adams, and the Glorious 25th of May for fans of Terry Pratchett's Discworld.
We'll be hosting the fabulous Sci-fi & Geek pub quiz with probably a bit of skepticism thrown in for good measure. A certain comedy sponge will be joining us (no, not the one with oblong trousers, the other funnier one from Wigan). So come to Thanksgeeking this Thursday 23rd May for the GMSS annual fancy dress pub quiz and sponge based budget cabaret!
It's less than two weeks away, so it’s time to think about a costume!* In previous years we've hosted Holly from Red Dwarf, Beetlejuice, Neil Armstrong, Lara Croft and and Link from Zelda to name but a few. The bar has been set high so it's time to get your geek on!
*Costumes are by no means a requirement to attending the event, but you may lose serious Geek Points if you don’t!
